Intellectual property
Edicions de la Universitat de Barcelona manages the intellectual property of all works it publishes, whether they fall under copyright or open access. Therefore, all authors are required to declare their responsibility for the originality of the work, regarding the text and, where applicable, illustrations; to state that there are no commercial or other commitments that could give rise to conflict due the publication of the work; and to confirm that the work has not been previously published or sent to any other publisher for consideration, in any format and in any language. The person who makes contact with the publishing must also indicate whether the authorship of the work is attributable to one or more persons.
For the defence and protection of copyright, Edicions de la Universitat de Barcelona uses the various services CEDRO offers its members —Digital Anti-Piracy Service (SAD), digital certification registration of works, and digital advertising protection—, as well as advisory services provided by the Gremi d’Editors de Catalunya.
Publication ID: DILVE and ISBN
To establish the identification of published works, Edicions de la Universitat de Barcelona registers all works with DILVE, the primary Spanish technological platform for managing and distributing bibliographic metadata, and also requests and assigns the appropriate ISBN (International Standard Book Number), the international book identification code by which books are ordered and identified.
Given the provisions of standard UNE-ISO 2108:2006, an ISBN is a number intended for commercial products. Free publications or those for internal use by an institution therefore do not require an ISBN.
Edicions de la Universitat de Barcelona is only authorised to manage the registration and processing of ISBNs for publications that form part of its own publishing catalogue.
Preserving the collection: the UB Digital Repository and others
In preserving its publishing catalogue, Edicions de la Universitat de Barcelona ensures the conservation of its works and future access through the Legal Deposit system, for both printed works and eBooks (covering the content and metadata necessary for their description and access).
For printed books, the publisher will undertake the legal deposit of all works pertaining to its publishing catalogue; depending on the type of material, this entails the deposit of one to four copies at the Legal Deposit Office. The copies submitted will be made available to readers at three centres in Spain: the Biblioteca de Catalunya, the provincial public libraries in Girona, Lleida and Tarragona, and the National Library of Spain in Madrid.
For digital books, the deposit of works and the metadata necessary for description and access goes through Unebook, a distribution portal for national university books created by UNE, which, in addition to enabling the scientific exchange of works, twice a year provides a digital catalogue of both commercial and open access works to the National Library of Spain.
Edicions de la Universitat de Barcelona is only authorised to manage the Legal Deposit registration of materials that form part of its publishing collection
The institutional repositories of the University of Barcelona, managed by CRAI, also guarantee reliability, authenticity, integrity, author identity, and usability and accessibility.
