Faced with the task of discerning which fundamental part of human life is most directly affected by violence, this paper highlights proximity, a notion on which the philosopher Josep Maria Esquirol has elaborated an anthropological theory that has great hermeneutic scope, especially with regard to a revaluation of everyday life. In this sense, after a phenomenological outline of the problem, two scenarios are critically analysed in which the discord between violence and proximity becomes evident: one refers to the perception of public space, while the second is related to perception of the face. Thus, the goal of this article is to suggest a shift in the dis-course on violence that has proximity as its cornerstone.
