Abstract
This article examines the notions of authority and tradition in the thought of Hannah Arendt (1906–1975) to determine how they are related with her conception of education. The world must be protected from its deterioration through the continuous introduction of new elements; a task that the author attributes to education. However, despite being essential for the preservation of the world, the educational task must be carried out in a context in which the elements it requires (authority and tradition) are in deep crisis.
