This article is an open window for those willing to immerse themselves in the complexity of the world of mental health from a philosophical perspective, at a time when health is at the centre of attention and social concern. First, the tensions and contrasts between the three major theoretical models (medical, social, biopsychosocial) from which disease and mental health are conceptualized are outlined and highlighted. Next, different attitudes and current ethical challenges present in this area of health are exposed, emphasizing in particular the tensions that emerge in this diversity of perspectives. Finally, the concept of relational autonomy is explored, which aims to preserve certain fundamental aspects of autonomy, both from the paternalistic and from the autonomist tendency.
