Abstract
This article discusses the transhumanist pretension of overcoming death through technology. This pretension is contrasted with Heidegger’s analysis of human existence in the second part of Being and Time (1927), specifically the concept of “being-for-the-death”. It is maintained that the phenomenological evidence offered by the German philosopher shows that the pretension of overcoming death makes no sense because it ignores fundamental aspects of the human condition that technology cannot eliminate.
