Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine how the lockdown caused by COVID-19 can affect the mental health of the population. The analysis has been made on the basis of observation, statistical and consumption data, exchange with specialists, reading of documents and a field study. The results of these methods do not provide definitive conclusions, but it can be affirmed that the irruption of sudden changes in everyday life causes alterations in people’s mental health. The data analyzed for the period of the first lockdown (March-May 2020) do not show a notable increase in the main toxic habits or in the consumption of prescription drugs, although there is an increase in over-the-counter preparations to control anxiety and insomnia, symptoms manifested by part of the population.
