Editorial policy

At the end of the Middle Ages, the emergence of the two great Iberian empires, with interests of universal scope, contributed decisively to making Europeans embark on a new overseas adventure that allowed them to explore a new world and be both senders of messages and ways of life and avid receivers. The Transferències 1400-1800 collection aims to show, through various protagonists and scenarios, the scope of these exchanges and their profound impact on the creation of the modern world.

Submission of originals

Editorial proposals must be sent to the email address of the collection secretary (diegosola@ub.edu), as well as to the address of Edicions de la Universitat de Barcelona (infopublicacions@ub.edu).

The originals must be unpublished, not be in the process of evaluation in other collections or publishers and must follow the The University of Barcelona’s code of conduct for research integrity.

Originals, written in clear and precise language, must be submitted in accordance with the criteria listed in the the rules for the submission of originals and the style guide, and they must be sent with an abstract describing the work, as well as a brief curriculum vitae of the author or authors.

Bibliographic references must be adhered to Harvard format:

Selection process for originals

The original will be subject to external evaluation in accordance with the peer and double-blind review, entrusted to members of the Editorial Board of the collection itself or to specialists in the subject of the original selected directly by the Board. The evaluation will follow strict confidentiality parameters, guaranteeing at all times an independent professional and academic assessment.

Once the selection has been made, the author will receive a report within a period not exceeding six months, whether the work has been accepted or rejected, the author will receive a reasoned reply from the editor of the collection pointing out, if necessary, the possibility of rewriting or reworking the original submitted in order to introduce the changes or remarks sent to him, and also the necessity to adapt the text to the collection’s editorial criteria, and specifying whether the changes are obligatory or optional. Final acceptance of a paper may be conditional on whether or not the proposed changes are made. The publisher then schedules its publication in accordance with collection management.

In the event of the work being accepted, the publisher will contact the author to formalize the publishing contract and, once it has been scheduled with the editors of the collection, inform him/her/them of the planned publication date.

Process of publishing originals

Once the original has been accepted and the author has been notified of the decision, the publishing house sets in motion the process of editing and producing the work, of which a copy editor takes charge in coordination with the editors of the collection and the author. The editor informs authors of the different stages that will be followed, as well as the execution times, so that they can plan the revisions that will have to be made by them.

Copyright warning

Edicions de la Universitat de Barcelona works with copyright licences and, where appropriate, with Creative Commons licences. Each case is studied with the editor of the collection and, prior to the formalization of the publishing contract, the author is informed of the most suitable licence. Self-archiving of preprint copies is permitted, subject to prior notice to collection management and the publisher. The full collection is available, with a planned embargo period of one year, as Open Access in the University of Barcelona Digital Repository and in the Directory of Open Access Books. For illustrated works, reproduction permissions are managed for all formats and media (paper and eBook).

Declaration of confidentiality

Proper names and related information, such as email addresses, and also the works that are submitted for evaluation, are used solely for the collection’s declared purpose, and under no circumstances will they be made public, nor will they be made available to third parties.
