Editorial policyCollection: ESTUDIS D’ANTROPOLOGIA SOCIAL I CULTURAL

Editorial policy

The collection Estudis d’Antropologia Social i Cultural born in 1997 of the wish to publish the results of the lines of study and the research projects developed in the University of Barcelona’s Department of Social Anthropology, nowadays is open to authors and research groups to publish their anthropological research. The collection has gradually been opening up to different countries.

Its lines of research, for which proposals for publication are accepted, include different fields of anthropology: economic anthropology, medical anthropology, heritage anthropology, food anthropology, gender anthropology, kinship anthropology, cultural diversity anthropology, etc. All these fields, often interdisciplinary, converge in a consolidated editorial line of renowned prestige, which is constructed thanks to the collaboration of an academic team made up of the different researchers in the Department.

Proposals for publication are assessed by a committee of experts and, once they have been accepted for publication, they are carefully edited by Edicions de la Universitat de Barcelona with the aim of presenting the results of academic research work with the editorial rigour they demand. The books, conceived as collective works with broad reflection, are published preferably in Spanish, in paper and eBook format.

Process of selecting originals

The editorial process begins when a proposal is received from an author, stating all the authors of the original work and a summary of the main objectives, contents, methodology, and contributions in terms of scientific knowledge, as well as a structure of the chapters. The author will also outline a publication schedule.

Each proposal will be evaluated by the Editorial Committee of the collection, which will communicate its decision within a maximum period of two months. Acceptance of a proposal does not imply the automatic publication of the work, but that the complete original may be submitted for subsequent evaluation by the Committee.

According to the agreed schedule, the author will present the complete original work, to be evaluated by the Editorial Committee. The original will be evaluated by internal and external experts at the University of Barcelona, in accordance with peer-review and double-blind review procedures to ensure the anonymity of authors and reviewers. This, therefore, requires that the authors of the work present an anonymous version of the original which includes no authorship details.

Once the selection process has been completed, the author will receive a reasoned reply from the editor of the collection, whether the work has been rejected or accepted. The editor will indicate, where appropriate, the possibility of rewriting or rethinking the original in order to adapt it to the editorial criteria of the collection, specifying whether any changes might be mandatory or optional. If necessary, the author may resubmit the original, which will then be re-evaluated.

In the case of an accepted work, the publisher will contact the author to formalize the publishing contract and indicate the expected date of publication.

Process of publishing originals

Once the original has been accepted and the author has been notified of the decision, the publishing house sets in motion the process of editing and producing the work, of which a copy editor takes charge in coordination with the editors of the collection and the author. The editor informs authors of the different stages that will be followed, as well as the execution times, so that they can plan the revisions that will have to be made by them.
