Editorial policy

The Economia i Empresa collection has been created out of the wish to encourage critical academic discussion and to seek the necessary space for reflection in order to face the principal social and economic challenges of our time, based on the fruitful connection between the economic and business sciences, and also from a sociological point of view. With an academically plural approach, it includes studies that analyse economic themes rooted in the present day, without shying away from the historical perspective that is so necessary for understanding their context. The published titles cover quite a wide thematic, and at the same time specialized, arc in order to find the points of intersection between the economic and business sciences and other disciplines such as sociology, history, literature, philosophy, anthropology and psychology. Based on a rigorous selection process of original submissions and careful editing, the aim of these books is to communicate science in order to reach a specialist readership, interested in economic studies and the disciplines that are to be found in these spaces of academic intersection.

Submission of originals

Submissions for publication must be sent to the general address of Edicions UB (infopublicacions@ub.edu), from where they will be forwarded to the editors of the collection so that they may assess them and notify the authors of their decision. Originals, written in a clear and precise language, must be sent in accordance with the criteria listed in the rules for submitting originals and the style guide, and they should be accompanied by a description of the work, as well as a brief academic CV of the author or authors, in which they should state their full name, institutional post or academic title, institutional membership, and their contact email address.

The process for selecting originals

Originals are evaluated by internal and external experts at the University of Barcelona, on the basis of the double blind peer review process in order to ensure the anonymity of authors and reviewers.

Once the selection has been made, the author will receive a reasoned reply from the editor of the collection, whether the work has been turned down or accepted, pointing out to them, where applicable, the possibility of rewriting or reworking the original submitted in order to introduce the changes or remarks sent to him, and also the necessity to adapt the text to the editorial criteria of the collection, specifying if the changes are obligatory or optional. Where appropriate, the author may resubmit the original, which will be reviewed again.

With regard to the accepted text, the publishing house will contact the author to formalize the publishing contract and, once it has been arranged with the editor of the collection, inform him or her of the envisaged publication date.

Process of publishing originals 

Once the original has been accepted and the author has been notified of the decision, the publishing house sets in motion the process of editing and producing the work, of which a copy editor takes charge in coordination with the editors of the collection and the author. The editor informs authors of the different stages that will be followed, as well as the execution times, so that they can plan the revisions that will have to be made by them.

Copyright warning notice

Edicions de la Universitat de Barcelona works with copyright licenses and, where appropriate, with Creative Commons licenses. Each case is studied with the editor of the collection and, prior to the formalization of the publishing contract, the author is informed of the most suitable license. Self-archiving of preprint copies is allowed, with prior notice to the collection management and publisher, with a variable embargo period. In relation to the illustrated works, the corresponding reproduction permissions are managed to reproduce all kinds of images protected by copyright in all formats and supports (paper and eBook) of the edition.

Declaration of confidentiality

The proper names and the related information, such as email addresses, and also the texts that are submitted for evaluation, are used exclusively for the purpose stated by the collection and under no circumstances will they be made public or made available to third parties.
