Abstract
The existence and presence of lyrical forms presented like songs singed by protagonists and included in the story of the versified diegesis is one of the most original characteristics of the romance in Byzantium.
The present contribution aims to answer some questions about the role of these images and compositions in the fiction, especially remarkable in the byzantine novels of the Palaiologan period (s. XIII-XIV), through the simultaneous analysis of Livistros and Rhodamne and Kallimachos and Chrysorroe.
