Estudios bizantinos is a digital and international open-access journal of Byzantine Studies. It has been created by the Sociedad Española de Bizantinística and it welcomes scientific papers with original and high-quality content on any aspect of the Byzantine civilisation.

PUBLICATION POLICY

It is the prerogative of the Editorial Board to decide whether the content of originals is suitable for the profile and aims of the journal, and consequently to decline to evaluate the original.
In order to be accepted for evaluation:

  • Contributions must be completely original: they must not include contents appearing in whole or in part in other publications, either here or elsewhere, or form a part of a research programme to be published later.
  • Research results to be presented must be complete in themselves: they cannot be preliminary studies or stages of the research. They must have a specific object of study and present new conclusions.
  • The articles published must be more than just a printed text, and should use hyperlinks to digital content with guaranteed permanence to expand their content and improve their readability.
  • Articles submitted for publication must use Unicode fonts, include and use a bibliography appropriate to the subject, and be carefully presented and organized internally. No items will be accepted for evaluation with misquoted references, wrong spelling, or confused expression as a result of being written in a language with which the author is not sufficiently familiar.

Once accepted for evaluation, the article, without the author's name, will be sent to two referees, who will issue a report within four weeks. The report will conclude whether the article is:

  • rejected.
  • accepted with major changes (which will lead to a second review, which may be carried out by a different referee).
  • accepted with minor or no changes.

Once the evaluation report has been received, the author will have 4 to 8 weeks to carry out the required minor or major changes respectively.
If any conflicts of interest or irreconciliable positions are detected that prevent objective evaluation, the process will restart with the search for a new referee. If the author and the referees, or the two referees with each other, do not agree, the editor of the magazine will have the last word, and the author cannot appeal if he or she does not agree with the final decision.
The author will know at all times at what stage of the process the original is. If six months after being presented it still has not had a definite review, the author may complain to the editorial board and withdraw the original.
Articles will be published on the web of the Publications Service of the University of Barcelona in pdf format, with abstract and key words.
